GPS Technology Applications

Global Positioning System, commonly known as GPS, is one of the most useful technologies available today. GPS makes it possible to pinpoint the exact location of a person or an object with the use of satellites orbiting the earth. The website Lightninggps.com describes the array of applications and solutions which are made possible with the use of GPS technology. Such solutions include fleet tracking, personal tracking, asset tracking, and others.

GPS Tracking systems for vehicles are comprised of electronic devices that allow vehicle owners or third parties, such as truck fleet owners, to monitor the location of a vehicle or cargo. By using GPS to seamlessly and accurately locate a vehicle or a container, this data can be viewed on digital maps using the Internet or a proprietary tracking software. As an example of this GPS application, a fleet manager could set a maximum speed limit and receive alarms if the tracked vehicle goes over this limit.

Using such a technology also allows to keep track of your friends and family. In case of an emergency, a GPS Tracking system can locate your loved one’s location, so you can send for help. Additionally, vehicle tracking units have increasingly been added to vehicles to prevent theft and assist in vehicle recovery.

Moreover, the technology is often utilized to find kids who are lost as well as a spouse who may be unfaithful. Although invasion of privacy concerns are somewhat valid, the benefits of having an efficient business and calm car owner, husband, wife, or parent outweigh any possible disadvantage. Check out the Lightning GPS Tracking solutions website to see how this technology can help you.

An iPhone App As A Fitness Aid?

iphoneapp

Seriously, give it a years time and there will be an iPhone application for anything you can think of. If you’re a would be iPhone application developer, this is certainly time to get cracking, before all the good ideas are taken, and competition becomes too intense for the little guys.

With that in mind, I came across an awesome new iPhone application today, that helps with something that most of us North Americans clearly need help with: fitness! It’s actually a series of applications, from a company named ITMP, and you can download them free to your iPhone (for now!)

Basically, the programs allow you to better monitor your body when working out, by providing information such as calories being shed, heartrate, fat being burned, and more. Of course, you can do all of this while running the treadmill to your favorite iPhone stored music selections.

If you want to try the applications, you will need to purchase a SMHEART link, which is a gadget that will be able to send your heartrate directly to your iPhone.

Windows Seven Is Just Around The Corner

Those of you have been holding off on upgrading to Vista, or wishing to skip the operating system all together by moving directly to Windows Seven, may see the new Windows OS in stores as soon as this coming September!

According to a bevy of tech blogs, “7″ could be ready to launch as early as Q3 2009, a full quarter earlier than was previously thought, and better than the simple “2010″ time frame given by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. This would clearly be a much appreciated release time for those hoping to avoid the troubled Vista OS all together.

As someone who bought a new PC which included Vista, and have been somewhat unhappy and oftentimes annoyed by the OS, I will be very interested to see what the consumer response is to Microsoft Windows 7.

Has Google Earth Found Atlantis?

It’s amazing what people are taken in by these days, but titles such as the one on this post have created a buzz around the blogosphere today. Even with Google coming out and saying, no, they did not find Atlantis, that people were merely observing lines made by a sonar carrying path of boats, the news continues to spread. So why not join in on it?

If you’re not aware, basically what happened is that a UK engineer sighted what he thought looked like the “lost continent” while using Google Ocean. What he viewed was reportedly over five KM below the water’s surface with the same geographical coordinate range of where many believe the “lost continent” to be.

If you want to see what all the buzz is about yourself, just boot up Google Ocean (which is available via the Google Earth program) and fill in the coordinates with 31 15′15.53 N 24 15′30.53 W. Then you can decide whether you believe its simply lines created by a path of boats, or perhaps the lost continent itself.

Need To Update Your Drivers?

When experiencing hardware difficulties, its important to update your drivers in order to make sure that they are not causing the problem. Thankfully, updating our drivers often fixes hardware issues and is actually quite easy and quick to do if you use the driverssoftware.com drivers resource.

When you visit driverssoftware.com you’ll notice that they have drivers listings for every type of hardware you own, all in one easy place. And they conveniently list the most often needed drivers, such as hp drivers and brother drivers directly on their homepage, so that you can access them quickly.

One aspect of the driverssoftware.com website that I particularly like is the big green “update drivers” button near the bottom of their homepage. This big, noticeable, button makes it easy to check which of your drivers need updating, and then update them accordingly. Simply click on the button and follow the directions, and you’ll probably notice your computer working a lot more efficiently when you’re done!

Mobiles Sockets To Become Uniform

hellokittycharger

Thank goodness! You know what I hate? When I buy a new mobile phone, and because its a different model than my last one, I have to purchase a new in house and car charger for it. Or when I go to my folks house, and I can’t use one of their mobile chargers, as theirs are different models than mine. I mean, how often have I wondered: why can’t they just make them all the same?

Well, it looks like I’m about to get my wish, as a group of major mobile phone producers are planning to produce universal power sockets by the year 2012. All of the handsets from these manufacturers ill contain a micro USB charging port, which of course, is also used to transfer data from mobiles to computers, and vise versa.

Who’s participating? So far companies who have agreed to the change are: LG, Nokia, Samsung, Sony and Motorala. That’s right, pretty much all the big boys are in on this one, so get ready to be able to charge all of your families phones interchangeably.

Computer Recycling For The Future

oldpc

All across the country people are becoming concerned with both computer recycling as well as TV recycling methods, in order to help combat global warming and save our environment. You see, unfortunately, computers contain parts that may release toxins into the earth’s oil. Alternative methods of computer disposal will become more and more of a normal event as officials become knowledgeable of the danger they can pose in a landfill.

In many areas electronic stores or recycling centers are starting to accept old computers from consumers. They then take the computer apart, and place the different parts in the right containers marked for proper disposal. This is expected to become more and more mainstream, as PC manufacturers continue to upgrade computer abilities and make them more affordable for the average consumer to purchase.

Recycling old computers to save the environment is something that absolutely needs to be done, we all have a responsibility to do our part in proceting the plaent. People are going to continue to require new computers and other electronic equipment, and recycling is needed to handle all the old equipment that likely double or even triple over the coming years.

Alternative Energy From Japan

japanese

Japan has a population with high density in cities, which makes the Japanese market highly challenging in comparison with other countries. For instance, if near-shore and offshore installations could be used for wind energy. Offshore applications are more expensive because the construction costs are high. However, it is often the case that the wind is significantly stronger offshore, which could counteract any of the higher expenses. Additionally, equipment itself is improving. The price, measured in kilowatt-hour being produced, will be lower, since turbines will be more efficient. Therefore, there is an increased interest in wind energy. When compared to additional renewable energy sources, wind is highly competitive today. The largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world, Vestas wind systems, is highly involved in capital investments in Japan for the purpose of enhancing its generating capacity power from wind turbines.

World War II taught Japan to not become dependent on energy supplies from foreign nations, as the their oil supply lines were destroyed. Japan truly needs to produce energy by itself, and since its an island nation with relatively few natural resources requires constant flow of foreign investment as well as technological innovation.

Energy production using what is known as mini and microhydroelectric power plants are also gaining traction in Japan. The country has many streams and rivers, which are ideally suited for constructing such microhydroelectric plants, as are defined by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization to be producing an output reaching a maximum a hundred kilowatts. In comparison, minihydroelectric power plants can produce up to a maximum of a thousand kilowatts of electrical energy.

The smaller-scaled mini- and the micro-hydroelectric plants have been designated originally as suitable for production of electricity only in mountainous regions, but they have now, through innovation, come to be regarded as ideal for Japanese urban areas also. For example, Kawasaki City Waterworks and Tokyo Electric Power Company have already begun the implementation and development of small-scale hydroelectric power plants inside several Japanese cities.

A Web Hosting Resource

Choosing a web hosting company can be a difficult process, as there are just so many different ones on the market. However, its very important to do adequate research before diving in and signing up with a host, as if the hosting company doesn’t live up to your expectations, you could end up facing a lot of down-time and calls to tech support.

One easy way to get a grip on which web host best suits your needs is to head over to WebHostingRating.com. At the WebHostingRating.com website they provide an in depth look at a variety of web hosting companies, and present the relevant information in an easy to understand format (even for those of us who aren’t exactly tech gurus).

Just look on the right hand side of the page under “coupon information” when reading their review of any specific web host. It’s a quick and easy way to save a few bucks!

iPhone Typing Doesn’t Have To Be Difficult

iphonetyping2

Every time that you are faced with a new technology it requires learning how to use it. However, this can sometimes be quite difficult, especially when there aren’t many training resources. A good example of this is with the new Apple iPhone. When you first purchase an iPhone, you probably spend many hours getting familiar with the various features, however, there are some product tips that aren’t learned by simply playing around with this phone.

One such feature is the keyboard. With such a unique feature as a touch screen keyboard of the iPhone, then there are multiple tips that you should know in order to type your messages efficiently. Once you follow these tips, you will be able to type both quicker and error-free. The first of the tips involves the actual typing of the letters into the iPhone. When you wish to use a certain letter, you simply tap on it; however, the letters do not appear on the screen until you lift your fingers off of it.

Also, if you touch the wrong key you can simply fix this error by moving or sliding your finger to the correct letter. Then when you have found the right letter or number, you can lift your finger and the letter will appear onto the screen. This tip helps fix the majority of errors, and will save you significant time.

Many users have found that the auto-correction feature within the keyboard is a great way to keep the writing clear and easy. However, it is very easy to accept a word that you actually didn’t want to type. If you want to steer clear from this confusion then you need to learn how to accept and reject a suggested word. When you wish to accept a word, then you will want to finger tap either space, return or the punctuation mark. However, if you wish to reject a certain suggested word, then you will simply want to finish typing the word you want and after that you will have to tap the completed word.

Also a reminder, if you wish to write a full word at two different times, then finger tap on the word, the iPhone will actually add the word to its internal dictionary. It usually requires a couple of weeks to store all of your frequently used words into the internal dictionary, however, once this is complete, typing using your iPhone will be noticeably fast.

The last tip relates to the capitalization of words. If you want to capitalize the first letter of a word, you simply finger tap the shift key and then tap the letter you want capitalized. However, what happens when you wish to capitalize the entire word? This is very simple, and doesn’t require you to finger tap the shift key before each letter. You will want to go to settings and then tap general after that tap keyboard. From there you will tap “Enable Caps Lock,” and then when you double tap the shift key it will light up blue, and now you will be able to type in all caps.
