Since Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, has left on medical leave, the company hasn’t heralded a major new product. That has increased the rumours regarding what possible new devices the company may be getting ready to launch. One such rumour was the Apple is developing a touchscreen device that could be as large as 10 inches, for release later on in the latter half of 2009. Certain people associated with the topic say the gadget is a netbook, an affordable, smaller notebook computer.

Other people close to the company, nonetheless, say the device will be more like an iPod Touch with a larger screen that will allow for easier viewing of movies, read electronic books, play video games, and surf the web. GMail Service Suffers Another Outage

GMail, Google’s e-mail service, was shutdown for an undisclosed number of users recently, an awkward bug that comes after a more severe worldwide outage less than a month ago. On Tuesday, Google stated it had remedied a majority of the issues with its popular mail service but that “a small subset of users” could stay without account access until early Wednesday morning, Pacific Time. The bug, locked certain users out of their accounts for longer than 24 hours. The company spokesperson declared the issue was resolved for most of affected users within 30 minutes, which occurred at 2 a.m. Pacific time Tuesday. The company also said it knows how important the email application is for its users and are working to fix it.

Privacy Breached by Google

Google divulged recently that it shared with unauthorized users a small number of online documents. The privacy snafu, initiated by a software bug, impacted a minuscule proportion of documents according to a blog post by Jennifer Mazzon, Google Docs product manager. Google alerted the users who were affected and reversed the mistake, she stated.

The bug affected users who altered their sharing settings on numerous documents and presentations simultaneously, resulting in Google sharing those documents with other users with whom the document owner had shared a document in the past. Though remedied, the mistake punctuates another risk in online software: the possibility that someone may acquire unplanned access to it.
