Thinking back to when I learned about sex, man oh man were there some crazy rumors going around. I guess that happens when most of what you hear is from your friends, and the rest of it is from what you piece together from television. Of course my parents gave me the old “birds and the bees” talk, but it really wasn’t very helpful, not to mention it was extremely uncomfortable.
I remember hearing that it was okay to have unprotected sex as long as it was a certain number of days after menstruation. I heard that multiple times, always with a different number of days as the “safe period”. I’m sure glad I didn’t test that theory, as I love my children, but three is enough.
Luckily for my kids things have come a long way since then, andthere are now many different options and resources available when it comes to learning about sex. There’s actually an excellent website that I will encourage them to use when the time comes, as it provides quality information on topics such as birth control and how to prevent STDs. It’s nice to know that my kids won’t be as flabbergasted as I was! The website is sex.healthguru.com, and I recommend it to anyone who has questions about sex.
