Robot Set to Walk at Fashion Show
A walking and talking robot from Japan, having a smiling female face is set to make a debut at a Tokyo fashion show. However, it still has to pass safety standards. Researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, a government-sponsored organization, stated their “cybernetic human,” wasn’t yet ready to help with day to day chores or work with people. Currently, the 62.2 inches tall, weighing 95 pounds, black-haired robot is named HRP-4C. The developers said the robot may be used in amusement parks or to perform simulations of human activities, as an exercise instructor, for example.
HRP-4C was configured to resemble a typical Japanese woman, despite having a silver-and-black exterior. The robotic frame, without the face and coverings, will go on sale for about $200,000 each, to allow people to innovate more applications for the robot. The robot has 30 motors in its body for moving its arms and walking plus 8 motors on its face to create expressions like surprise and anger.
