Here’s some weird, off beat news for all of you today: our dear native language of English has grown to encompass one million words. And which word exactly was added to help thy Queen’s tongue reach such levels? The answer is: Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 was officially added to the English language on Wednesday, and was chosen over fourteen other words to be the one that brings us to one million. Apparently Web 2.0 was chosen due to its frequency of use in all mediums. It was chosen over such words as “sexting” and even (shudder) “octomom”. Also of interest is that the two words added just before Web 2.0 were “Jai Ho!” and “slumdog” both which have recently gained popularity in English speaking countries after the success of Indian film “Slumdog Millionaire”.
